puddle reflections: KIRIPI KATEMBO’S “UN REGARD” PHOTO SERIES

Congelese photographer Kiripi Katembo Siku began his career as a painter before moving to photography, and this transition becomes all the more apparent in his portrayal of daily life in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Entitled “Un Regard”, Katembo captures the routines and vicissitudes of the denizens through reflections of dirty water and puddles, giving the series a painterly effect as if rendered from the hand of an impressionist. The result is both moving and challenging as the eye attempts to focus on the atypical compositions.
